Ken Kreatzer Speaks with Travel Expert Marlene Follick about 2016 Travel Ideas

Still looking for summer vacation plans for your family?

“For short trips from the northeast, Cooperstown, home of the Baseball Hall of fame and beautiful lakes; Baltimore is a great place to witness history, visit the aquarium and even see a baseball game at Camden Yards; and Howe Caverns near Albany are at the top of the list” recommends cbsi travel advisor, Marlene Follick of ProTravel International, based in Harrison, NY.

Traveling with children can be a challenge but memorable family experience Marlene points out,

“When you go away with just your children, it such a wonderful bonding experience, staying with your kids in a motel, the kids love it, just a unique experience for you and for them and they will not forget it.  Maine and Niagara Falls can be great trips.  We have a lot of things within driving distance to take advantage of.”

A key on how to keep both parents and children happy on a driving trip, Marlene recommends:

“After three hours driving you have to stop, even if it is a little place, go out and stop for lunch, for a snack, let the kids run around, then when you get back in the car you are good for another three hours.”

Amy Tara Koch In The New York Times described several vacation destinations including Virginia Beach, Lake Geneva, WI, and Wyoming as high value family vacation places.  Marlene agrees and offered a couple of suggestions:

“In Wyoming you have beautiful scenery, you have all the state parks, and this is their 100th anniversary, they would love to have people come, and they are not packed.  Not everyone needs to go to Yellowstone, there are many smaller parks to go and enjoy”.

Another travel idea from Amy Tara Koch’s article is to take a cross country train trip on Amtrak, one destination she described is going from Chicago through Memphis to New Orleans, Marlene likes taking the family on the train,

“A train trip is really exciting for children, because they don’t have to sit still, they can get up and walk around, you can take a train from NY’s Pennsylvania Station to Chicago, you can go to the Grand Canyon, you can go to California, train travel can be exciting and children do enjoy it.”

On the value of working with an experienced travel agent,

“Just call your travel agent and work with her to plan a trip, plot the best routing, the best hotels, things to do, that is what travel agents do.”
